There has been a trend over the last decade of store-bought hummus. People often wonder just how to make it. Let me tell you, it's the easiest thing in the world to make and literally needs 5 ingredients. So many people have written recipes for this, adding paprika or something to it...let me tell you something else... it doesn't need it.
Here is a recipe that has been in my family for generations...my family hails from Syria and so I think we know a thing or two about making hummus!
Total "cook" time 10min. Total prep time 5 min
Ingredients:
- 1 can of garbanzo beans drained (save the juice and set aside)
- 3-4 cloves of garlic peeled
- salt to taste
- 1.5 tbs of Tahini
- Juice of 1 lemon
In a blender, mix the beans, garlic, salt, tahini and lemon juice. Once combined blend in 2-3 tbs of the garbanzo bean juice from the can to smooth it out. Taste it to make sure you like the flavor profile, remember that the garlic will become more potent as it sits. Place in a serving dish, cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour prior to serving.
That's it! Make some hummus and enjoy with raw veggies, chips or pita bread!
